Soprano -Soprano is the smallest of the four ukulele body sizes and is the traditional ukulele size. The Honu Soprano is perfect for kids learning ukulele or for adults who prefer the brighter tone of a traditional ukulele.
Concert -Concert ukuleles are currently the most popular ukulele body size worldwide. Bigger than a soprano but smaller than a tenor, a concert uke is the perfect middle ground for most players. This size is suitable for all ages, though small children may be better suited to a soprano.
Tenor -Tenor ukuleles are exploding in popularity thanks to the full, deep sound produced by their larger body size. Bigger than the concert, the tenor is great for teenagers and adults that are looking for the most volume from their ukulele and extra space for their fingers on the fretboard.
Baritone -As the name suggests, a baritone ukulele is the largest and deepest sounding of all of the ukulele sizes. Usually tuned like the highest four strings of a guitar (DGBE), rather than the GCEA tuning found on most ukes, a baritone is great if you have a background in guitar because you won't have to learn any new chord shapes. They are also very fun if you are a ukulele player looking to experiment with a different tone.
Acacia has long been one of the most popular tonewoods used on higher end ukuleles and it's easy to see why. Visually striking and tonally rich, each piece of acacia has its own characteristics, making each instrument built with it unique. For our Kohala Deluxe series, we have paired the all acacia body with abalone style purfling and rosette and flame maple binding. As with all Honolua Ukuleles, it includes premium features designed to produce the best tone possible at an affordable price, including solid acacia top for greater volume and better tone, bone nut and saddle for better clarity and sustain, open back machine heads for tuning precision and eco-friendly wood selections.
Kohala Series
The Kohala has all of the aesthetic upgrades of the Mano, including solid top, maple binding, gold tuners, and dual strap pins, but it’s built with acacia wood instead of mahogany. Acacia is revered for its beautiful, full tone and we’ve added abalone-style trim around the body.

This ukulele is a winner. It's not only a beautiful well made instrument with its colourful inlay but has a very pleasing tone. The resonance is impressive and ranks with the best competition. The acacia wood gives this ukulele a bright and lively sound. I've always had mahogany ukuleles and like them very much because of their mellow sound, but the acacia wood is pleasantly different with a lighter mellow sound. A professional musician tried both my high end mahogany baritone ukulele and my Honolau one. She preferred the sound of the Honolau. I had been thinking about a Martin instrument, but the Honolau is first rate in every respect and an excellent value for the price.
My wife (a very accomplished musician) has been campaigning for one of your baritone ukulele’s ever since she tried one at the Calgary Folk Festival this summer. I know she will be thrilled to open her present on Christmas morning. Although she has not seen her new ukulele yet I can attest that it is a beautiful instrument that I am thrilled to give her. Thanks for making Christmas fun and easy for me.
Boy.. Whew!!.. Done a lot!! Of reseaching, comparing, noodling.
This deluxe baritone is grrr8 !
And yes. I did spend som time on the frets and lightly rounding the fretboard edges and an over all sanding away the sharp edges-everywhere with 1000 grit. Hey iam a guitar nut hobbiest! I play around making my instrument right for me as everyone should who love their instrument.
Nut was correctly cut. And though Iam tempted to, loosen the strings and remove the bridge saddle and a couple light passes on the bottom side with 1000 grit or so should
quickly lower the action. Proceed. with care.
A beautiful instrument with this solid acacia.. Love this tone and find transfering the cord and scales of a 6 string.. Highest 4..a big boon with immediate enjoyment.
Gold color of the tuners and strap buttons are my only gripe.. that tone of gold, it looks plastic.
Yep. I would look into Honolua for a future purchase.
I am in love with the look, the feel, and the sound of this instrument! The acacia wood is stunning, the maple binding with the abalone.... it's a work of art! This is my first baritone ukulele. I had been looking at them for months and months, undecided, until I found this model and HAD to have it. I am so glad i ordered it. The tone is deep and rich. Gorgeous!
I also ordered an electric tenor (for 50% off) from the acacia Koaloha line with a minor defect that is equally lovely. I'm so happy.
UKULELE PROS
My kohala baritone arrived yesterday. In spite of spending 10 days in the postal system it had held its tuning right out of the box. The acacia wood is beautiful and the grain is perfectly matched. The only negative is that a small area on one side has a rough finish, but generally the build is good. The sound is deep and rich, with good volume and sustain. The fret board is easy play - no buzzing strings and bar cords much easier than my old instrument. The classy gig bag is a bonus. Well worth the reasonable price.
